Frequently Asked Questions (draft)
I'm not sure if AAP is for me. Isn't it only for students who fit the eligibility criteria?
AAP receives federal grant money, and this money does come with some restrictions on what students we can serve. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that AAP programs are not right for you! We strongly recommend you contact us if you are interested in our services... it can't hurt to ask, can it?
I'm interested in the Summer Transitional Program, but I don't know how to apply! Could I get more information?
The Summer Transitional Program (STP) is an invitation-only program for students who apply to the University of Maryland through the usual application process. The Office of Admissions at the University determines who will be invited to apply. Even students who are invited to apply are not guaranteed admission into the STP. If you have received an invitation letter, please visit the STP Application as soon as possible to express your interest in the program before it's too late.
I am a current student at the University of Maryland and I heard about the AAP Program. What do you have to offer?
Great! We have lots to offer to you. If you would like assistance in English, Math, or College Study Skills, the Intensive Educational Development (IED)program can help. IED also occasionally offers special workshops on topics like test-taking, math anxiety, and GRE preparation, so check the AAP calendar to see if there are any upcoming events that interest you.
If you are considering graduate school, then you may want to consider applying to the Ronald E. McNair Program, especially if you fall into one of the following categories:
● First generation in college
● Low income
● From a group that is underrepresented in academia
The McNair Program provides mentoring and support to students like you, including an intensive Summer Research Institute that puts participants in the heart of the research community.
