AAP Philosophy
The philosophy of the Academic Achievement Programs of the University of Maryland, College Park, is that grade point average and standardized test scores do not always provide a full or accurate assessment of a student's potential for success. AAP believes that, because grade point average and Scholastic Aptitude Test scores are the most heavily weighted criteria in admissions decisions at the University, many potentially successful students are denied the opportunity to pursue academic work here. Therefore, AAP offers an avenue for students with the potential to succeed in college to have access to the institution in which he/she did not meet the regular admission requirements.
